ALONSO WINS MONACO, DC SOLID FOR PODIUM

The Monaco Grand Prix, one of the classic motorsport races. And also one of the maddest, 80s triple world champion Nelson Piquet described it as "riding a bicycle round your living room" for good reason, every time we get a look at the on car camera it looks like the driver might crash into a wall at any second! Still, it's home turf for a lot of drivers and will always attract a load of interest.

Massa went off early in the first qualifying session which led to a red flag but that was the only early headline. Jenson did dodge a bullet in the first session though and his luck ran out in the second session and was given 14th. DC did better though, making the top ten for the first time this year. Michael put in the first time before getting beaten by Raikonen only for Michael to retake pole...before parking his car on the track near the end of the lap which FUBARed everyone else's times. Sure enough the 'god' of Formula One got thrown to the back of the grid and what can I say? Adelaide '94! Jerez '97! Austria 2000! His general insistance that Ferrari worship him! Don't try to smell of roses Michael it won't work! Anyway Fisichella also got thrown back a few places for blocking DC giving Alonso pole, Webber second, Raikonen third, Montoya fourth, DC seventh and Button 13th.

For once it was Jenson that had the quiet race. The only real highlight he had was on being able to keep a surging Michael behind him for a while. Overall though he really didn't look like doing much, was never in a points position and eventually finished 11th. If this was supposed to be a potentially good weekend for Honda then I don't want to know what a bad one is supposed to be.

DC on the other hand was plain awesome. OK, so he found himself behind Barrichello to start with and after a pitstop wound up out of the points. However after getting switched to a one stopper he did find himself ahead of the Brazilian, back in the points. And then Webber went out, Raikonen went out, Klien went out, Rosberg went out. While DC is still standing and up to fourth place. And then Jarno Trulli went out and I went mental. Why? Because after holding off Barrichello and Michael(fourth and fifth) DC banked his first podium since '03! His first for Red Bull. And though the Superman cape was slightly mental...who cares!

Alonso won the race though, because all he really had to do was stay solid and stay in front. His persuers kept crashing out and in the end that was the only thing that was going to stop his winning his second race in a row. Montoya wound up the nearest man left standing, picking up second which washis best result of the season so far.

Lessons learned from Monaco:

F1 world: It is far more worth it if you don't lick Michael Schumacher's backside.

Furthermore: Yes Kimi...it is very nice to have your own yacht where you can booze with your mates after crashing out of a race.

So now the championship standings look like this: Alonso leading with 64 points, Michael in second with 43, Fisichella up to third with 27 points(and a win in Malaysia), Raikonen down to fourth while also on 27 points(but no wins), Montoya up to fifth with 23 points, Massa down to sixth on 20 points and Jenson down to seventh on 16 points. Futher down, DC is up to 11th with seven points.
