IT'S RAIKONEN'S DAY

Well, the '08 season started with a Lewis win in Australia but race 2 at Sepang was coming up fast. It was up to Ferrari to get their act together after a poor performance at Melbourne but that was what everyone was expecting. Lewis opening the season with two wins in a row would have been awesome but the competition was too good to make that easy.

Well in qualifying, Davidson was the only Brit that didn't make it into Q2, with Fisichella not making it either. Jenson and DC came within an inch of making Q3 but had to settle for P11 and P12 respectively. Lewis made it through to Q3 but it was Kovalainen that had the early edge before Raikonen edged him, then Massa grabbed his first pole of the season, Lewis initially settling for P4 only to be booted back to P9 with blocking other drivers on their flying laps.

Jenson didn't get much attention during the race . He sniffed around the points quietly for a bit but the first anyone really saw of him was the first pit stop. Nothing much happened from there other than a slide off into the grass but he came back on track and picked up his first finish of the season in 11th. An improvement with an upgrade to the Honda expected later on.

DC's race was more eventful and he made it up to 8th at the start before losing out in a rumble with Heidfeld and Alonso, forcing him down to 9th. Still, he got as far as 5th before his first pit stop sent him back out of the points again, and though he did look like picking up a couple of points late on it wasn't to be and he finished in 10th place, as with Jenson it was his first finish of the season.

With Lewis, well he made his way up to 5th...and then got stuck behind Webber for a large chunk of the race. His team brought him in but a loose element on the refueler meant that he wound up out of the points and back behind the Aussie again! He finally got past Webber but by that point it was too little too late to do much about 4th placed Trulli so he settled for 5th. One of those weekends - best to get them out of the way!

Up front, well Massa led the early stages but when Raikonen hit overdrive just before his first pit stop he took the lead. The Brazilian went on to spin out of the race and no one threatened the reigning world champion from there as he took his first win of the season. Kubica picked up the first 2nd place of his career while Kovalainen completed the podium with third.

Lewis still leads the championship though, and his lead has increased to three points. DC still has no points though(best finish 10th) and neither does Jenson(best finish 11th).

Next up is Bahrain! And I will be there! So expect one very interesting report.
