Well, while everyone gets to stuff their face over Xmas, there's no rest for top flight footballers, and for United there were still points to be gained to close in on Chelsea, with Fergie having signed up Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic from Spartak Moscow, the 24 year old being part of a Serbian back four that proved rock solid in the World Cup qualifiers. Before then though - we had the 80s 'Captain Marvel' Bryan Robson coming round with his West Brom side.

Well there seriously wasn't much to talk about from West Brom's point of view in this match, Scholesy put a header over the bar early doors before finally hitting the net after a loose ball came to him inside the box in the 35th minute. Rio then made it two just before half time from a Giggs cross.

The second half was more of the same with Alan Smith's cross getting headed in by the Ruud boy. I know that Albion had a load of players injured but for the first time in ages I have to say that this was a training session for United, not a match.

What was a match, on the other hand was Chelsea vs Fulham at Stamford Bridge, a tight encounter in which Fulham should have had two penalties that weren't given. Up at Anfield, Michael Owen made his return with Newcastle, only to get taken care of by his old team who came up with a 2-0 win.

North of the border, Aberdeen crashed to Motherwell at Fir Park in the Scottish Premiership, the home side winning 3-1 thanks to two goals from Australian forward Scott McDonald and midfielder Alan McCormack before Dons midfielder John Stewart got a cxonsolation goal.

Elsewhere, Celtic beat Livingston 2-1 and Celtic Part to keep their four point lead over Hearts, who trashed 10-man Falkirk 5-0 at Easter Road.
