UNITED OVERRUN SPURS

Well, if we're going to win the Premiership this season, we have to get three points out of places like White Hart Lane and going into out match against Spurs our record in London was a bit hit and miss. Sure, we'd beaten them at Old Trafford early on in the season but underestimating them on their turf wouldn't be a smart move. So it was van de Saar back in goal, Evra at left back, Carrick and Scholes in central midfield, Giggsy at left mid and Rooney and Larsson up front.

Young-Pyo Lee had the opening shot of the half but after that, United certainly meant business but the big names couldn't get a shot on target. While Spurs had their uses though it was United that did most of the attacking and we should have had one penalty midway through the first half which wasn't given. The ref must have been keen to make up for his cack up as we then got given a pretty iffy penalty in injury time. Not that Ronaldo was going to care, he just stuffed it in the net for 1-0.

It became 2-0 when Vidic headed in yet another United corner to confirm his place as one of Fergie's better recent buys and then in the 53rd minute Ronaldo destroyed the opposition defence as is his will and fired in a cross which Scholsey nudged over. Credit where credit's due, Spurs weren't dead yet but when Louis Saha came on he managed to set up Giggsy in the 77th minute to make it four. Game over, bar John O'Shea having to spent the last few minutes of the game in goal after Van de Saar got injured. The fact that we could afford to do that against a team like Spurs surely says that the title is ours.

Elsewhere, Chelsea looked to have a straightforward game against Charlton at the Valley. Frank Lampard hit the winner for a 1-0 win. The home side weren't completly useless but this was one of the Blues's more straightforward wins this season. It still leaves them six point behind United in the Premiership and the Cocky One must have watched our game with Spurs and thought "oh no, how are we going to beat them to the title now". Other than maybe Liverpool in March, I'm not sure who's going to do them any favours.

North of the border, well, Aberdeen weren't in action over the weekend. The Scottish Cup 4th round was happening though, the main ties worth noting being Dunfirmline beating Hearts 1-0 at East End Park, Inverness CT beating Dundee Utd 1-0 at the Caledonian Stadium, and Celtic beating Livingston 4-1 at the Almondvale Stadium. Mugs of the round are Falkirk who lost 3-0 to D1 St Johnstone and Falkirk Stadium. No ties went to a replay.

That leaves the quarter final lineup looking like this. Dunfirmline play D1 Partick at East End Park. Inverness CT face Celtic at Caledonian Stadium in the only all-SPL tie of the round. Motherwell face St Johnstone at Fir Park while the third remaining D1 side Queen of the South face Hibs at Palmerston Park. I'm predicting Celtic, Dunfirmline, Motherwell and Hibs to make the semis with Celtic still probably sset to do the double.

And now it's international week.
