UNITED CONCEDE TITLE AND ROONEY DOUBTFUL FOR WORLD CUP

Well, it came to this, one last shot at the title and we had to visit the League leaders and take it from them the hard way. No Premiership team this season had gone to Stamford Bridge and picked up three points. Fergie put Rooney and Saha up front to see what they could do. Nothing to do but go all out attack and hope that the Blues have an off day.

Well that plan didn't work. In the 5th minute a Chelsea corner found an unmarked William Gallas. 1-0. From there on in United slowly got their act together only question was, could they get an equaliser? Well if Wayne Rooney can fire the ball the wrong way from close range then the answer is pretty much going to be no. Ronaldo fired in a hotshot but we were coming up empty.

We turned up the pace in the second half but we were still coming up with nothing and Chelsea were more than happy to take advantage after Joe Cole toasted our defence in the 61st minute to make it two. Game over but to add insult to injury Chelsea grabbed a third when Damien Duff set up Richard Carvalho in the 73rd minute. And then the disaster that should have all of England worried as Paulo Ferrera hacked what is argubably this country's deadlist assasin. The current expectation is that Rooney will be out for six weeks with a metatarsal injury. As in, out for the rest of the Premiership season, out for England's pre-World Cup friendlies and 50/50 for the World Cup itself. All in all this match was a complete disaster.

The Scousers took full advantage of this, beating West Ham 2-1 at Upton Park and Villa 3-1 at Anfield. This leaves United still in second place but only on goal difference despite having a game in hand.

North of the border, Aberdeen have moved up to fifth place in the SPL after hammering Hibs 4-0 at Pittodrie. Stevie Crawford opened the scoring before Steve Lovell added two more and Richard Foster made it four to give the Dons a chance of taking fourth place in the Premiership off the Edinburgh side with two games to go. Though the Dons are only really playing for pride at this point it was still an impressive result.

Elsewhere, Hearts beat Celtic 3-0 at Tynecastle while Rangers beat Kilmarnock 3-1 and Rugby Park, allowing Hearts to hold on to second place by a margin of four points.

A begrudging congratulations to Chelsea for winning the Premiership title, may the Blues fall victim to plague next season!
