UNITED FAIL TO KILL CHELSEA

Well, this was it. The biggest match of the Premiership season so far. Potentially the deciding match of the season. Last time Chelsea came to Old Trafford they left empty handed. Not that it counted for much, we were always chasing the Blues last season. This time out, Chelsea had to come up to Old Trafford and prove that they could still remain in the hunt afterwards, defeat would surely kill them off. Fergie replied with an unchanged side from the Celtic game hoping for a better result this time out.

The two sides exchanged chances in the first half while the Fan Zone commentators accused each other's side of thuggery, of course I reckon the United fan had the better case(and the Chelsea fan was just a loonhead). The Blues certainly gave United the odd scare but then in the 29th minute Rooney gave Saha a very classy pass, and the Frenchman rounded the Chelsea defence to slam the ball in. The Blues never looked like getting an equaliser.

In the second half it was more of the same with United having the opening burst of attacking before Chelsea slowly started moving through the gears but their allstars were just sending the ball into row Z all the time. United's defence looked like it was going to hold out but in the 69th minute the Blues got a corner and Richard Carvalho headed straight in. From there, the match always looked to be headed for a stalemate with the Blues in particular playing for the draw.

So, that leaves United top of the Premiership by three points, having blown the best shot we're ever going to get of wrapping up the title race early on. We're not headed to Stamford Bridge till mid-Aprill so the question then becomes, can we at least open up more of a gap before then? The fact that the Blues were able to get a point out of Old Trafford says that we'll probably need to. Untill then it's back to crossing our fingers hoping for the Blues make more slip ups.

North of the border, Aberdeen faced Dunfirmline at East End Park in the SPL. The Dons battered the visiting side from the start with Dunfirmline only giving the visitors the odd scare though it was still goalless at half time. Lee Millar then gave the dons the break though they were looking for in the second half with Darren Mackie adding two late goals, allowing the Dons to keep the heat on the Old Firm while they stay in third in the SPL for the time being!

Elsewhere, Hearts drew 0-0 with Inverness Caley at the Caledonian Stadium which puts the Dons five points clear of the Edinburgh side. Rangers however beat Kilmarnock 3-0 at Ibrox to stay ahead of the Dons in second place though the Blues are level on points with the Reds with the Pittodrie side still only having a -1 goal difference deficit. At the top, Celtic did slip up though, only drawing 2-2 with Hibs at Easter Road, allowing their gap on top of the SPL to be cut to thirteen points.
