ANFIELD CONQUERED AGAIN!

The Scousers. No United fan needs to say anything more. Credit where credit's due the 'other' Reds had a pretty strong season last years, making the Champions League final and doing well enough in the Premiership to make Europe's top tier again but will they ever win a Premiership title? Not for a while. Not while we're still capable of doing the double over them! We battered a useless Scouse side at Old Trafford and scrabbled a win at Anfield.

This season, well Liverpool have been hit and miss in the Premiership and aren't exactly on top form at the moment, internal issues between Benitez and the board aren't helping and though they still have some quality individuals around, they still have a fight to be in next season's Champions League. Trips to Anfield are never easy but we'd rested the bulk of our first choice XI over the past week. Van de Saar in goal, Brown right back, Rio and Vidic central defence, Evra left back, Ronaldo right mid, Anderson and Hargreves centre mid, Giggsy left mid and captain, Rooney and Tevez up front.

The Scousers had the first chance of the match and United didn't look like they'd be able to get their act together for a while. The early stages were certainly fast paced but it was the home side that had the edge with their defence able to handle United. However United's defence wasn't going to get breached, of course it helps if the Pool assasins miss sitters. It also helps if their defence allow our assasins too far in! In the 43rd minute a Ronaldo cross found Tevez one yard out. United led 1-0 at half time.

In the second half, once again the Scousers looked to hammer the United goal but our defence kept getting in the way! The lameness of the Scouse assassins didn't do our cause any harm either. United had the odd chance but it was always up to the Scousers to try and turn the game round. Ryan Babbel came on for the home side amd had his uses but couldn't find the net! Our strikers weren't much better but still, it's always good to get three points out of Anfield, however we do it!

Elsewhere, Arsenal faced Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium. Chelsea had more of the attacking play in the first half though the match had become a rough affair before William Gallas hit the net for Arsenal just before half time. Chelsea looked for their own edge in the second half but couldn't find it and may be fading out of the title picture. So United remain in 2nd in the Premiership, one point behind league leaders Arsenal and five points ahead of Chelsea and having to resort to the Champions League preliminaries!

North of the border, Aberdeen faced Motherwell at Fir Park in the SPL. And got hammered. Ross McCormack and Steve McGarry put the Dons two down early on with McCormack grabbing his second just before half time. The Dons weren't able to take control enough in the second half to have a chance of pulling this round, the latter stages of the half proving to be pretty even. The Reds had the late attacking spells but couldn't find the net.

Elsewhere, Inverness CT faced Celtic at the Caledonian Stadium. Jan Venegoor of Hesselink but the SPL leaders two up with two quick goals only for Caley to pull one back just before half time through a John Rankin penalty and then complete the turnaround with David Proctor and John Cowie hitting the net. Aberdeen remain 6th in the SPL though, eight points behind 3rd placed Motherwell and a garunteed UEFA Cup spot but still two points ahead of Inverness CT who have risen to 7th and the bottom half of the table.

Going up a few levels, AC Milan faced Boca Juniors in the Club World Cup final in the International Stadium. Filipo Inzaghi opened the scoring for the Serie A side only for the big name of Argetine football to quickly reply through Rodrigo Palacio. The European big gun took over in the second half though, Alessandro Nesta and Kaka hitting the net before Inzaghi got his second. A consolation goal was given to Boca's Pablo Martin Ledesma but still, AC Milan became the first European team to win the Club World Cup in it's current format, the last European winners of the old Intercontinental Cup being Porto in '04!
