2007 NBA FINALS PREDICTIONS
Allright, we know what's going down here. Best team in the East plays the best team in the West. What's going to happen?
Spurs vs Cavs: After a year away, the Spurs are back in the NBA Finals. What's more, they have a winning record in the title deciding series. In '05 they beat the Pistons 4-3 which included an absolutely classic Game 5 which the Spurs won in overtime. The Cavs, have precisely the opposite in terms of history. The franchise has been around since 1971! They have never made the NBA Finals before now and I didn't honestly think that even LeBron would get them this far.
In terms of regulr season records, the Spurs have the edge. Neither side won their respective divisions but the Spurs 58-24 record beats the Cavs 50-32 although two of the Cavs 50 wins were against the Spurs! In terms of playoffs records, the Spurs beat the Nuggets in five, the Suns in six and the Jazz in 5. The Cavs swept the Wizards and beat the Nets and Pistons in six games each. There is clearly nothing between the two sides from this angle.
In terms of players, well we have Tim Duncan on one side and rather than facing the dullsville Pistons, he will have to deal with a player of similar class in LeBron. Take those two out of the equation, and you've got a better idea of which side has the edge in terms of personel. Duncan has a backup crew including Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli. LeBron seems to be carrying the Cavs more often than not though and though Daniel Gibson has turned out to be great for a second round rookie, the Cavs may need more than that.
So, the Spurs have the home court advantage and the history behind them though Cavs fans would point to their team's two regular season wins over their upcoming opponents. Studying playoff form is a waste of time, there's nothing to choose between these two sides. In terms of personel, well the Cavs have more strength in depth. Either way it should be one heck of a series, but I can't see the Spurs not pulling off their fourth title in ten years! In 6.
