NBA 2006/07 - THE SEASON SO FAR

OK, it's been ages since I've done and NBA stuff, but the run up to the All Star game is a good excuse to do a quick run through the story so far.

Well the first stop is going to be Miami where the Heat have had a very hit and miss season. Early on it definately looked like they were resting on their laurels after winning the Championship last year and Shaq getting injured during the season didn't help matters. They're currently on a 26-26 record with boththe Magic and Wizards ahead of them, the Wizards leading the South East division with a 29-21 record with the Hawks in fourth and the Bobcats bringing up the rear.

Next stop is the Atlantic division which has been by far the weakest division in the East so far but it's looking better than it was. Somehow though it's the Raptors that are leading it with a 29-24 record . Chris Bosch has made the Eastern Allstars starting lineup as a result with the Nets in second, the Knicks doing half decently this time round in third, the Sixers in fourth(after inexplicably selling Allen Iversen) and the Celtics bringing up the rear.

The leading team in the East has turned out to be the Detroit Pistons though with a 32-19 record despite selling Ben Wallace to the Bulls. Cleveland's also got a strong record with Le Bron classy as ever. The Pacers are in third with the Bulls in fourth though Luol Deng has certainly been solid for his team, though still not good enough for the Allstar Game(yet). The Bucks are bringing up the rear, their 19-34 record the only one in the division that looks embarrassing.

Heading out West and there's two stories in the Northwest division that look worth talking about. First up is Allen Iversen winding up with the Nuggets, though the Answer still can't get his new team on top of the division, their 26-25 record leaving them in the dust of the Jazz who've somehow surged to a 35-17 record! The other big story is the latest Brit in the NBA. Joel Freeland, from Farnham, was picked with the 30th pick in the draft by the Blazers. As a first round pick they had to give him a first round contract but his preseason record was a bit iffy and he returned to Europe to play for Spanish team Gran Canaria on a two year contract so we won't be hearing much out of him for a while. In the meantime, the Blazers are fourth in the division, behind the TWolves but ahead of the Sonics.

No one's pulling up any trees in the Pacific division with the Suns leading with a 39-12 record. The Lakers are at least showing the Clippers the way home which'll be a relief to Kobe Bryant and crew, the two LA sides coming in second and third respectivly. The Warriors aren't far behind the Clippers in fourth though while the Kings bring up the rear 'again' despite being a quality side once upon a time, overall, it's situation normal out there.

The best record in the NBA belongs to Dallas who seem to be taking the mick out of the opposition with a 44-8 record so far and a nine game winning streak at the moment, leading a Texas 1-2-3 with the Spurs in second and the Rockets finally getting their act together after a few years in third. THe Hornets and Grizzlies are the two sides that look out of the picture at the moment though in fourth and fifth respectivly and so that division looks like it's getting back to what I'd consider normal.

So next up is the Allstar Game.
